Governor Whitmer said of the new program,

By expanding access to essential family planning tools, we are underscoring our commitment to ensuring Michiganders, along with their families and trusted health care providers, can make their own decisions about their own bodies and lives.

Don't You Need a Prescription for Birth Control Pills?

It depends. A prescription is needed for the type of birth control pills that people usually think of, but the pills that will be provided for free through Take Control of Your Birth Control are progestin-only. Progestin-only pills are available over-the-counter, and the FDA first approved them for over-the-counter use in July 2023.
