Governor Gretchen Whitmer visited a Detroit restaurant staple yesterday to join the staff for lunch rush.  That staple was Lafayette Coney Island in downtown Detroit and she was there working the counter, prepping coney dogs and serving them to customers.

The Governor wore a mask with a clear covering so patrons can see her expressions and people with hearing disabilities could still read her lips.  The photo op was greeted by much love and disdain on Facebook.

The photo op was to show a popular Michigan business and demonstrate how businesses should be using masks and other sanitation techniques to ensure the safety of both staff and patrons.

However, the event wasn't without its hiccups with what is being described as a very tone deaf moment for Governor Whitmer when she responded to a patron who was asking her about when he will finally get his unemployment checks with "can I buy ya a hot dog?"
