That's so crazy, it just might work!"

How many times have we heard that before? Usually it's for some hairbrained scheme or caper in an action movie or something.

However this time we humbly submit something more tasty and tempting for your tummy.

But I thought you mentioned fruit cake?

We did. And while we know that the mere mention of fruit cake will send most running for the hills, it's this outside the box thinking that might be crazy enough and tasty enough to try.

Lord knows it looks good enough to eat.

While searching holiday food origins and treats, I discovered an article from the folks over at MLive about this tasty pastry concocted by the fine bakers over at Groovy Donuts (East Lansing & Williamston).

Behold the Fruit Cake Fritter:

Light, Fluffy Yeast Dough Chopped and Mixed with Holiday Spices (Cinnamon, Ginger and Nutmeg), Apple Filling and Mixed Glace Fruits (Cherries, Orange, Lemon Peel, Citron and Pineapple) and topped with a cinnamon rum glaze! This tasty holiday fritter takes Grandma’s Fruit Cake and makes it Groovy, Baby! (Groovy Donuts)

That DOES NOT look like what I envision when I hear fruit cake so I'm in and willing to give it a shot. You can order it online or call them: Williamston (517) 996-6300 or East Lansing: (517) 580-7302.

And if you're looking for a full on sugar coma, might I suggest you consider this beast.

White Chocolate Candy Cane is what they call it. And I'm calling my doctor if I have one of these and that fritter.

Take a trip over to Groovy Donuts in East Lansing or Williamston. Visit them online. Support local. And get some of these for you and Santa.

These are infinitely better than the cookies and milk you usually leave him.
