Starting today, about half of first class mail will arrive in three days, greatly reducing overnight mail delivery in the Lansing region.

Nearly half of first class mail currently processed in Lansing and distributed throughout Eaton, Ingham and Clinton counties will take three days to arrive in mailboxes.

About 36 percent will arrive in two days, and about 20 percent of first class mail will still arrive overnight.

The shift follows a dramatic decline in "snail mail" and continued growth of email and online billing.
