Somehow, we blinked and nearly everyone in Michigan finds themselves questioning the calendar: "Is it really almost Fall?" Most states get a gradual transition from one season to another. Not in Michigan. We all know that once pumpkin spice and cider hit the menus, we are just weeks away from another long winter.

So with that in mind, here are seven ways to squeeze every last drop of summer fun out of Michigan.

1. One Last Beach Day

I know what you're thinking: "The last few weeks of August are ridiculously crowded on any Great Lake beach." I know. That's why you'll plan your last getaway in mid-September. Yes, the water will be chilly, but grab your towel, forget the goosebumps, and do your best to pretend like it's July.

2. Ice Cream Road Trip

Get your Superman ice cream fix satisfied in a different zip code. Every city has a favorite place for a triple-scoop, so head out on a road trip with the family to find your new favorite spot.

3. Bonfire Season (But Still Shorts Weather...Kinda)

If it's getting darker earlier, that is all the more reason to gather around the fire (with cooler temperatures), roast marshmallows, and discuss whether or not the rustling in the woods was a raccoon or a cougar.

4. Farmers Markets: Final Haul

Another seasonal offering in Michigan, farmers' markets roll up shop once winter hits, so make sure you don't miss last call for fresh corn, sunflowers, and locally made dishes like canned salsa. Of course, you'll forget about the salsa when it gets lost in the fridge behind a gallon or two of cider.

5. Outdoor Tunes & Festivals

It won't be long before we are looking outside at the frozen tundra known as Michigan Winter, wondering why we didn't take advantage of warmer temps while we good. There's always one last beer fest or music festival to take in before the frost hits. Find yours.

6. Kayak, Tubing, Repeat

The water gets cold fast, but come September in Michigan, the crowds start to dwindle and the water gets a bit clearer. Plus, if you wait long enough and dress warm enough, a kayak trip down a local river will provide you with a few of Michigan's fall colors you've never seen before. Just do it quickly before your toes freeze.

7. Grill Like It's Your Job

Flame-kissed chicken, steaks, burgers, dogs, and fillets are as much a part of Michigan's summer as beaches, boat rides, and bonfires. Put your meals on the grill for as long as you can stand it. Bonus points if you have to brush snow off first.
