HISTORIC MICHIGAN: The Dyer Kiln Ruins, Bellevue
A Michigan Historic Site that makes an easy stop is the Dyer Kiln Ruins in Bellevue.
The remains of this old lime kiln sits alongside Sand Road, just southwest of town. It was built in 1880 and was used for burning limestone for cement preparation until 1899.
There were two other lime kilns in the area, one west along the Canadian Nat’l Railway and another east of the remaining kiln.
The Dyer Kiln was purchased by the Parks Commission in 1975 and is now an historic site and picnic area.
Come explore these remains for yourself!
