Sure. The building's fenced off and there's a bulldozer in the parking lot. Maybe it's just MINOR renovations.

From the looks of things, this is more than just a minor makeover at the old China East Buffet building in Holt.

The now empty building at the corner of Cedar and Willoughby is prime real estate at a very busy intersection. And it's been empty for a little bit now. One would wonder why it's taken so long to realize opening a new business or spot right in the vicinity of Kroger and our favorite Dairy Dan would be a no brainer?

But it does look like something is going on here.

Aside from the bulldozer and the fencing, one could assume some demolition or something is coming.

We did some digging and it didn't take too long for us to come up with something.

Another restaurant will be replacing China East Buffet in Holt.

Allegedly.

According to our sources it's going to be a popular chicken chain.

First, the posting on Facebook.

Well a now deleted posting on Facebook because we're assuming the person who gave out the information got in a little bit of trouble.

John Hayhoe of Holt posted something to the effect of "he'd been asked several times" and he went on to say that a new Popeyes Chicken was going up where the now out of business China East Buffet looks to be undergoing some renovations.

This is where all of it gets a little bit sticky.

John is listed as the Supervisor for Delhi Charter Township on their website.

And he shared the information about the forthcoming Popeyes in place of China East Buffet on his personal Facebook page.

A little insider information if you will.

We are sure there was hand slapping and hellraising at the local government level over public disclosure, breach of contract, privacy concerns, and so on.

This is speculation, but Wednesday afternoon his post came down and was wiped from existence.

But we saw it.

A lot of people did.

It's a topic of discussion in the local Lansing Foodies Facebook Group and our buddy WILX David Andrews shared it.

We'll keep a (Pop)eye on this one for you. I'm sure this won't be the last we hear of it.
