HAUNTED MICHIGAN: A Family of Ghosts Haunt This Bay Port Inn
How are your nerves? Stable enough?
The place in question is the Sweet Dreams Inn in Bay Port, up in Michigan’s thumb area. The thumb area has plenty of little-known and untapped creepy places…and this is definitely one. It was built in 1890 by William H. Wallace, founder of the Wallace Stone Quarry in Bay Port.
It’s said that Wallace can still be heard roaming the inn with his heavy clomping footsteps. Not only that, but if there are visitors/guests he disapproves of, he will whisper “get out” directly into your ear…that’s enough to creep ANYone out.
AND THAT AIN'T ALL...
the spirit of William's first wife has been seen & heard wandering the halls of the second floor, turning & rattling doorknobs of each bedroom in an attempt to make sure her five children are okay.
AND THAT STILL AIN'T ALL...
A little girl has been spotted peering out a third floor window; she has been identified as William's daughter, Ora Wallace. Not only have inn guests seen her, but also residents of Bay Port...and many people have captured pictures of her in the window. Ora has been known to touch guests, move objects & furniture and have little private tea parties.
The spirits of all the Wallaces are extremely active: you'll hear them speak, weep, giggle, break things, play music, walk & run up & down the staircases; they'll turn lights on & off, slam doors, move household items and have been known to sit at the side of your bed. They are mostly friendly...that is, until you hear William whisper "get out" in your ear.
So you think these are the ramblings of random guests trying to get attention by saying they've experienced paranormal activity? Well, according to the Sweet Dreams Inn's website, "Due to the hauntings, many guests don't make it through their stay!"
The inn is now closed and up for sale and it makes me wonder...did all the eerie activity force the owners to sell? If you have what it takes to run a haunted inn, please do...and I'll visit! The Sweet Dreams Inn is located at: 9695 Cedar Street, Bay Port.
