First Kiss, Job, and Drink: Average Age For Michigan Milestones
Ok, Michiganders, let's take a walk down memory lane. Do you remember your first kiss? Sure you do. I remember mine right down to the Juicy Fruit bubblegum and the smell of her drugstore perfume. How old were you? What about your first job or your first sip of alcohol? Ovid, a life insurance company, recently conducted a nationwide survey to determine the average age for milestones like these and others, breaking them down by state.

While there's no "State Minimum Age" for your first kiss, there are rules about when you can legally begin earning a wage and drink booze in the Mitten State.
Michigan's Minimum Drinking Age History
The legal drinking age in Michigan was 18 prior to December 1978, a move covered by the New York Times. Imagine the scene on college campuses today if the limits were the same. While there would certainly be an increase in sales, there would also be a measured increase in accidents and driving fatalities, as evident by the sharp decrease in both once the legal age was raised to 21, according to UPI.
Of course, while the LEGAL age to drink is 21 in Michigan, that isn't when most consume their first sip of booze. Drive by any number of fields in the Mitten State on any given evening, and chances are you'll see a bonfire creeping through the trees and a group of teenagers ready to sprint the moment someone yells, "COPS!"
