The 2023 ‘127 Yard Sale’ Begins, or Ends, In Addison, Michigan
This sounds like a great way to spend a long weekend. US 127 is an incredibly charming and scenic drive. Charming in that you travel through so many different size towns that move at different speeds. The scenery varies from town to town, city to state.
This was once a very well traveled road. The highway follows the terrain, rather than carving through it. Because it took a little longer to go north to south, families would book motels or campgrounds in towns for the night. Every little town along this route had a chance to be that place, so every little town would add it's own unique touch.
The 2023 '127 Yard Sale' is Literally The World's Longest Yard Sale
Addison, Michigan is the either the start or the end, depending on which way your approaching, of the Annual 127 Yard Sale. The signs will stretch nearly 700 miles from Addison to Gadsden, Alabama.
The '127 Yard Sale' Has a Long History
If you're new to the sale, no problem, here's the official history lesson from the source, 127YardSale.com
The 127 Yard Sale began in 1987. Mike Walker, former Fentress County Executive in Jamestown, TN, planned the event to encourage travelers to bypass interstate highways such as I-40 and I-75 in favor of scenic routes that would take them through rural communities and allow them to experience what the small towns and cities had to offer. With state parks, historical attractions, scenic drives, waterfalls, opportunities for hiking and biking, rivers and lakes for boating, train rides, horseback riding, fishing, bluegrass music, arts and crafts festivals, and more, this provided a great opportunity to bring more visitors to Tennessee and the 127 Yard Sale route. Visitors from across the country as well as those who have traveled internationally to the sale, will enjoy both the yard sales and attractions along the 127 Yard Sale route.
The official website for the sale says that the event draws "hundreds of thousands of people", including vendors and shoppers.
