This neighborhood motel – The Oaks Motel – sits next to Crockett Park, corner of Marquette Avenue and 14th Street (address: 6051 14th Street). Although this motel is likely closed, and more than likely abandoned, the internet still lists it as an open business. In fact, Groupon says “Oaks Motel has the best amenities around. Enjoy Oaks Motel when you stay in Detroit.” Nah…I don’t think so.

A sign greets you down a somewhat disheveled road, sitting next to a two-storied (with attic) house, in a setting that is somewhat reminiscent of a scene of the old Bates Motel and house in the 1960 Hitchcock film, Psycho.

The Oaks Motel was founded in 1956…closing date is unknown, but has been shut down for a good many years. The phone number is still listed and there are no reviews to be found (except for one five-star rating), even though it had been in business for a few decades. It must have been closed a long time ago, as the sign out front boasts “HBO Movies” and ESPN.

The driveway is currently blocked, with a “no loitering” sign on the front fence, obscured by overgrowth. Down the slim driveway, past the house, and to the rear where the actual motel rooms are. There are a handful of other empty buildings back there and a parking lot with the weeds poking thru the concrete.

There doesn’t seem to be any listing of a current owner, so it could either be privately owned or completely abandoned. I even looked for it on Zillow and other real estate sites with no luck.

Take a look at the photos in the gallery below and be grateful someone else takes these images so you don’t have to.
