Anyone who takes it upon themselves to explore any abandoned structure or area definitely takes big risks...

When I was younger I did my share of exploring old buildings and houses that were abandoned or empty. One such place was an old factory that had underground tunnels...we thought of them as mine shafts. The tunnels were small, just barely big enough for us to walk through, even though we had to stoop so we wouldn't hit our heads. We would go there during the dark of night and wander through the old factory buildings and underground tunnels, mindless of how dangerous all this was. I shudder to think what could have happened if it caved in...

One night we were there around midnight. We were getting ready to climb a few flights of metal stairs to get to the top of a structure...when all of a sudden, we heard the sound of someone running down those steps heading our way, each step clanging under someone's heavy feet. Needless to say, we high-tailed it out of there and ran all the way to the car, some half mile away parked by a river.

We never did know who that was or why a lone person would be hanging out at the top of a silo-shaped building at midnight, sitting out in the countryside. I don't think I explored much after that...that was it for me.

Not long afterward, the whole factory was torn down and the old tunnels were filled in.
