If you didn't know, today is National Stress Awareness Day which is a day to identify the *stuff* that is happening in your life that is causing you stress. It's also a day to try and find ways to reduce the stress in your life. As we get closer to the holidays, it's safe to say that everyone's stress level may start to increase (if it hasn't already). In honor of National Stress Awareness Day, here are a few tips that I found online that can supposedly help to reduce your stress. I haven't tried all of them, so you'll have to do your own research to see if they actually work for you.

    Take A Beer Bath

According to a report from Everyday Health, a smart person from Columbia University Medical Center in New York City, says that taking a beer bath can help to reduce stress because the "hops found in beer are phytoestrogens, and their fragrance could be stress-relieving to some". Umm...that's one expensive bath...not so sure about that...

    Drink Some Orange Juice

The experts at WebMd says that if you drink some orange juice it might help to get rid of some of your stress. How's that? Well, the vitamin C helps to lower levels of stress hormones like cortisol. (You might want to note there is no mention in their research about adding champagne to that orange juice...)

    Chew Some Gum

Here's one that's simple and one that I actually do quite a bit. Years ago I read that chewing gum can help when you're taking a test. WebMD says yes, chewing some gum can "help to improve mental performance during tasks" and they also add that chewing gum seems to reduce stress and anxiety.

    Wash Some Dishes

Unfortunately, they mean to wash your dishes by hand and not just throw them in the dishwasher. A report from Science Daily says that researches found that people who "focused on the smell of the soap, the warmth of the water, the feel of the dishes" reportedly felt less stress. You can go ahead and try it...I'm probably going to just stick with the dishwasher.

    Pet A Dog

A dog really is a man's (or woman's) best friend. According to WebMD, when you pet your dog your body releases feel-good brain chemicals while it also decreases the amount of the damaging stress hormones that are released. The result? Lower blood pressure, less anxiety, and they say that it can even boost your immunity.
