My wife and i will be celebrating our wedding anniversary on August 23 and we will be heading to one of the most beautiful areas in the state of Michigan, Petoskey.

We've heard all about Petoskey, read about it, and watched countless commercials on TV urging couples with upcoming anniversaries to spend their romantic getaway time in Petoskey, Michigan.

The Petoskey area is well known for just about everything on your list including Petoskey stones.

Little Traverse Bay will keep you busy looking for Petoskey stones during your anniversary getaway.  My wife and i plan on looking for these special stones and skimming them across the water.  Skipping stones is a lot of fun especially to see how many skips you can get out of each Petoskey stone.  The flatter, the better.

Everyone knows that summer comes alive in Petoskey because there is so much to see and do.

For example:

The Petoskey area has several wineries and breweries to check out during your visit.  You can enjoy drinking your favorite type of wine, whether it's red or white wine.  If you prefer beer over wine, you can take a look a a few breweries in the Petoskey area.

If you love shopping and who doesn't, Petoskey has dozens of shops and boutiques to keep you busy during your wedding anniversary celebration.

What's really nice about that whole area is the fact that it's roughly 36 miles from Petoskey to Mackinaw City.  So you could even make a day of it by hanging out at the beach at Little Traverse Bay and then take a drive to Mackinaw City.

Petoskey is such a nice area surrounded by Harbor Springs, Boyne City, Boyne Falls and Bay Harbor.  The entire area is extremely romantic for couples looking to have fun during their time away.

And of course there are plenty of things to do in the water in Petoskey  Whether it's boating, swimming, kayaking, or even fishing, this is the perfect destination.

And what about golf courses in the Petoskey area?  All we can say is bring your clubs and swing away because there are over 15 golf courses in the area.

Here's what petoskeyarea.com has to say:

Courses range from Boyne's ten world class courses (Bay Harbor Golf Club is rated 8th in the U.S. by Golf magazine and The Heather was named 2019 National Golf Course of the Year by the NGCOA) to a slice of heaven at Hidden River Golf Club, to economical and municipal courses.

Petoskey Michigan has it all from golf courses to even shoreline biking.  It is a Michigan Treasure Resort!

LOOK: Here are the 50 best beach towns in America

Every beach town has its share of pluses and minuses, which got us thinking about what makes a beach town the best one to live in. To find out, Stacker consulted data from WalletHub, released June 17, 2020, that compares U.S. beach towns. Ratings are based on six categories: affordability, weather, safety, economy, education and health, and quality of life. The cities ranged in population from 10,000 to 150,000, but they had to have at least one local beach listed on TripAdvisor. Read the full methodology here. From those rankings, we selected the top 50. Readers who live in California and Florida will be unsurprised to learn that many of towns featured here are in one of those two states.

Keep reading to see if your favorite beach town made the cut.
