I'm from Michigan originally and I've been dealing with heavy snow forecasts for years. Some years are worse than others, none the less, It's the same old song and dance.

If there's one or maybe two things I like about winter, it's snow skiing and sledding. Both are very fun to do. If you like sledding, then you should check out Hawk Island on Cavanaugh road in Lansing.

If you really enjoy downhill skiing, the best places to go are right here in Lower Michigan. It really doesn't matter to me, because there are so many challenging ski hills to check out.

Perhaps this might be a great weekend to go skiing or sledding. Your choice is always best. Here's what's going on with our crazy Michigan weather. (mlive.com)

Officially there is a winter storm warning for southwest Lower Michigan. The winter storm warning runs from Thursday morning to Saturday morning. Heavy snow will continue after Saturday morning through probably midday Sunday, but National Weather Service warnings have a maximum time period of 48 hours. In other words, Saturday and Sunday travels look dangerous also across southwest Lower Michigan.

If it looks too dangerous to do any traveling, you might want to stay home. However, if you like outdoor winter activities, drive carefully and keep everyone safe as you head to the nearest fun spot.

A few areas in Michigan will receive heavy snowfall, including Leelanau County along with a few inland areas near Charlevoix and Petoskey.
