Is Kissing Under the Mistletoe Now Considered to be Predatory?
Does anyone still kiss under the mistletoe? Or has this Christmas tradition fallen out of favor?
In the 2020s when so many things are being put under a microscope and canceled as being too 'politically incorrect', has anyone addressed this yearly occurrence?
According to tradition, kissing under the mistletoe is supposed to bring good luck and rid the kissers of any evil spirits. Even so, both parties have to be consenting before proceeding.

Hanging a sprig of mistletoe in the office could be seen as a cheap, easy way to snag a kiss from your favorite co-worker of the opposite sex. Some guys indeed use that mistletoe excuse in order for a few seconds of lip-locking. It’s not required to accept a kiss from someone under the mistletoe and if someone blurts “you’re supposed to! It’s a tradition!” tell them that’s bullsh*t.
Kissing under the mistletoe is still used in fun for family holiday get-togethers, but when it’s utilized at work, there are some people who view this practice as being somewhat ‘predatory’ or ‘sexist’. If your workplace allows the hanging of mistletoe, then play it safe; if you are the kisser or the kissee, keep the kiss on the cheek, NOT on the lips. No confusion, no foul, no ulterior motive is questioned, no pissed-off spouses, and most of the time no insult.
I personally have nothing against the tradition, but you can’t second-guess someone else. So, keep those mistletoe kisses on a platonic level, and not in a way that could be misconstrued as something else. Anything longer than one second could get you in trouble!
