Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer held a briefing Friday in which she strongly encouraged all K-12 schools in the state offer the option for in-person learning by March 1 and earlier than that if possible.

Many schools in West Michigan have been fully remote since March 2020.

Grand Rapids Public Schools have been fully remote for this entire school year, and had already planned to have students return to in-person learning on January 19.

While Gov. Whitmer is not mandating in-person classes resume - she wants for all schools in the state to offer them.

On Wednesday, Gov. Whitmer announced that the state will be moving to the next phase in the vaccine rollout on Monday, January 11, 2021. That next phase includes educators and those who work in schools. Michiganders over the age of 65, prison and jail workers, police officers, first responders, and state and federal employees will also be eligible to receive the vaccine.

This is a developing story.
