If you're from the Lansing area, then chances are you've done some of your grocery shopping over the years at Westlund's Apple Market on East Grand River Avenue.

According to the Lansing State Journal:

If you ask Tim Westlund how his family's small, independent grocery store reached the century mark, he'll first point to all the homes in neighborhoods nearby.  Westlund's Apple Market is a neighborhood grocery store, he said.  What you travel there to buy is what you'll leave with, and on Lansing's east side he believes that appeals to people.

Congratulations to Westlund's Apple Market as they celebrate a century mark milestone.  Westlund's in Lansing has been open since April 11, 1921.  That's incredible!

The Lansing State Journal adds:

Two families have owned it in the past 100 years.  It's gone through four name changes and moved once--from Washington Avenue in the city's downtown to 2301 E. Grand River Ave. in the 1950s.  The Westlund family has owned it since the mid-1980s.

Everyone knows that Westlund's Apple Market is nothing more than a grocery store.  They focus on groceries and not all the extras.

When I used to get my hair cut at Modern Barbers in Lansing which is right next door to Westlund's Apple Market, I would just swing into Westlund's for groceries.  It would always be produce, milk and bread most of the time. (maybe a snack or two)

It's a very clean grocery store with great service and a very friendly staff and we all hope they keep it going for another century mark celebration.
