The following post contains SPOILERS for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. And also Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but we’re guessing you saw that one already.

The first two Star Wars trilogies represented one man’s vision. George Lucas directed Episodethrough IV and produced and helped write and VI. When Lucas sold his company to Disney, Kathleen Kennedy took the helm, but she brought in various filmmakers to direct the new Star Wars trilogy. That has created a unique situation, where one guy, J.J. Abrams, started and finished a story, and another guy, Rian Johnson, told the middle chapter. And their ideas didn’t always line up.

Abrams got the last word, though, because he returned to direct Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. And in doing so, he was able to return to some of the ideas he introduced in The Force Awakens. He was also able to downplay — or even negate entirely — some of the concepts and characters that Johnson brought into the mix in The Last Jedi. At times, The Rise of Skywalker feels like it’s been intentionally designed with the express intent of undoing The Last Jedi.

Below are ten examples of places, scenes, and characters that do exactly that.
