It's an event many look forward to every year, the Vermontville Maple Syrup Festival, but this year, along with everything else, they have decided to cancel the event.

Vermontville has always billed themselves as the "granddaddy" of them all, the original Maple syrup festival in Michigan. The weekend long event always takes place the last full weekend in April.

The coronavirus pandemic, which is spreading at an alarming rate and closing so many other things, is the reason for this festival's closing.

This would have been this year's 80th Maple Syrup Festival, and organizers said that "after a long, heartfelt discussion, the Vermontville Maple Syrup Corporation has decided to cancel the festival that had been scheduled for April 24, 25,and 26th."  They went on to say that they were so very sorry for any inconveniences this causes and asked everyone to stay safe and healthy and they will see everyone in 2021.
