The Greater Lansing Balloon Festival takes place today and Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Hope Sports Complex, 5801 N. Aurelius Rd.  The cost is $5 per vehicle.

The Lansing area will have the opportunity to look skyward and see nearly two dozen beautiful hot air balloons on display.

The soccer complex offered a natural host site, with flyable conditions for pilots, the ability to have mass launches and affording the public proper viewing and parking.

I remember as a kid watching the Wizard of Oz and how the Wizard wanted to take Dorothy back to Kansas in his hot air balloon.  Ever since then, every time I look skyward and see a hot air balloon, it takes me back to that scene in the Wizard of Oz.

Once of the biggest reasons this is happening is because of the Lansing Promise.  The Lansing promise is a scholarship program offered to students living within the Lansing School District boundaries.  For more information click here on the Lansing State Journal.
