According to WILX, for the first time, Sparrow is partnering with a local church to provide drive thru COVID-19 testing for community members.

Over the past two or three weeks, we've learned that a lot of people in the Lansing area have been getting tested to see if they have COVID-19.

Even a few of my own family members who recently traveled out of state to Florida and back to Michigan have been tested just to be on the safe side. The tests came back negative, which was good news.

Speaking of being tested, a nasal swab test will be offered from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 18 at Union Missionary Baptist Church, 500 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Lansing.

Results are reviewed at Sparrow Laboratories and people who get tested should have their results within 48 hours.

"COVID-19 has impacted communities of color at a disproportionate rate. In an effort to support and improve the health of the people in the communities we serve. Sparrow and Union Missionary Baptist have come together to ensure our most vulnerable populations have access to care." (WILX)

Reverend Dr. Melvin T. Jones who is the senior pastor of the church said, as one of the most visible institutions in the inner city, it's extremely important that Union Baptist Church encourage COVID-19 testing.

Thousands of patients have received tests at the Sparrow Laboratories Drive Thru Services site at Frandor.

And now Sparrow will partner with Lansing's Union Missionary Baptist Church to offer testing on Saturday, July 18, from noon until 4 p.m.
