Jeopardy Contestants Didn’t Know Basic American History and Fans Were Not Having It
You know that feeling you get when you know the answer to the final or any Jeopardy question and the contestants don't? It's a pretty sweet feeling.
That sort of thing happened last week and fans of the Jeopardy show are not letting it go. Viewers to the show are calling it the "worst showing ever" and said that none of the contestants should have been allowed to win.
So what exactly happened to make so many people shocked and angry? All three contestants on the show could not answer a fairly easy American history question.
The category was "Quotations" and the question was "Government of the people, by the people, for the people is from the end of this brief but powerful speech?" Instead of buzzers ringing in, it was the sound of crickets. Not one of the contestants knew the answer to this basic American History question.
The answer was given by guest host Mayim Bialik, President Abraham Lincolns Gettysburg Address. Yup, the smarty pants on Jeopardy could not answer a question that the majority of high school students in America would know the answer to. Host Blalik then moved on to the next clue. Some Jeopardy fans were not moving along, they were so ticked that the contestants didn't know the answer.
Social media sites were filled with Jeopardy fans going off on the contestants. One person wrote, "Not knowing the Gettysburg Address??? Worst showing ever. None of these 3 deserved to win tonight". "I'm gonna pretend like I just didn't see ALL THREE contestants miss 'The Gettysburg Address' just now." and another wrote, "Wow. no one knew The Gettysburg Address. That made me sad."
Guest host Mayim Bialik, from The Big Bang Theory, has done an amazing job on the show, and already fans of Jeopardy are calling for her to be the permanent host.
