Meeting Christopher Reeve During the Filming of “Somewhere In Time”
The movie Somewhere in Time was released in 1980.
It was during the summer of 1979 when the movie was shot on Mackinac Island.....and I was there..
I used to go up to Mackinac Island every summer during the month of June with my buddies. The lilac festival is held that month and the place was always busy...and fun.
When we arrived that summer, we didn't realize they were shooting a movie on the island...most of it at the Grand Hotel. So, we trekked our way up the hill to the hotel to see what we could see...and we DID see.
We got to hang out in the lobby while the Somewhere in Time film crew was setting up a scene.....we got to watch them film a few. Out on the front porch is where we went next, where the crew got ready to film another couple of scenes.
"Meeting" Christopher Reeve
Afterward, we went back into town and walked around. As we walked up one of the back streets, I looked up. There, coming right toward me, was Christopher Reeve, riding a bicycle. As he got closer, I was attempting to make sure it indeed was him.
It was.
He nodded over at me, looked me straight in the eye, and had a look on his face like "I hope I don't have to stop for an autograph...I just want to unwind." So, I didn't bug him. But, hey - we did acknowledge each other so that was cool.
Yup.
Face-to-face and eye-to-eye with probably the best Superman EVER was good enough for me.
