Several Water Rescues Shuts Down Lake Michigan Beach

Swimming in Lake Michigan can be lots of fun, and it also can become dangerous with high waves and rip currents.

Just this week alone, at least three people were rescued from Lake Michigan at a Grand Haven beach.

According to mlive.com:

Two Indiana women, 20 and 21, were struggling to stay afloat in Lake Michigan at Grand Haven State Park about 1:28 p.m. on June 28. The 20-year-old woman was able to make it to shore and call for help, the Grand Haven Department of Public Safety said.

That's when park rangers had to step up and save the other woman who was having a difficult time trying to get out of the water.

I think the important thing to keep in mind here, is if you see high waves and conditions don't look favorable, just stay out of the water until it's safe to go swimming. It's all about using common sense.

There was another situation where a 13 year old boy and his father were both in distress and needed help from park rangers and Grand Haven officers. Both the boy and his father were rescued and all is well.

At this point, Grand Haven State park has closed all water access until further notice. Officials will reevaluate conditions and let everyone know when it's safe to go swimming.

My son and step son were both at Grand Haven State Park last weekend and didn't have any problems swimming. It all depends on the day and being aware of lake conditions.
