It's a scary thought knowing that even our own local hospitals are at 100% capacity and many of these patients are suffering from COVID-19.

According to the Lansing State Journal:

The number of COVID-19 patients at all five of Sparrow Health Systems' hospitals has been increasing for the last few months, said John Foren, a spokesperson for Sparrow, and is "definitely a factor" in overall capacity at the hospitals.

The biggest push right now is making sure people are getting their COVID-19 vaccinations along with their booster shots.

Currently, there are over 80 patients at Sparrow hospitals who have tested positive for COVID-19. Over 60 of them have not received any vaccination shots.

The Lansing State Journal adds:

The capacity issues at Sparrow come just as members of the Professional Employee Council of Sparrow Hospital, which represents 2,200 Sparrow workers, authorized a strike vote this week. They have been without a contract since Oct. 31.

If we take a look at another local hospital, McLaren is currently at 95% capacity. There were over 20 COVID-19 patients being treated for the virus at McLaren hospital.

We certainly thank all doctors and nurses for what they do every single day. It's exhausting for so many frontline workers who are working over-time to help save lives.

Right now, the COVID-19 numbers are starting to rise once again in Michigan and all we can do is try to get through this pandemic as best as we can.
