Michigan’s Long-Lost Clown Makes a Comeback: Ronald McDonald Returns
If you grew up in Michigan in the 80s or 90s, you didn't just go to McDonald's—you went to visit Ronald. He was on TV, in commercials, and he even showed up at stores in Lansing, Jackson, Grand Rapids, and anywhere else a celebration (or sick kid) took him. Sometimes you'd find him sitting on a bench waiting for you to have his picture taken with him or throwing candy in a parade. But then, suddenly, he was gone.

Amid the creepy clown hysteria of 2016, he and his giant shoes walked off into the sunset. But was this move made as a result of sick individuals standing on dark streets dressed as clowns?
According to Mental Floss, it may have played a part, but the main reason for giving the clown nearly a decade off was the fact that the character was targeting children and marketing their deliciously greasy yet not incredibly healthy options to young, impressionable minds. So, he ghosted Michigan and the rest of the country.
Have you missed him? Heck, maybe you even begged your parents to get you a Happy Meal just so you could get the latest McDonaldland Toy, featuring Ronald McDonald and his buddy Mayor McCheese, Birdie, or the Fry Kids. Or maybe you bit the head off of each of them when you were given a box of McDonaldland Cookies (I miss those).
Fast forward to August 12, 2025, after a decade in the shadows, Ronald McDonald is finally poking his painted face back into our lives in Michigan.

According to a press release from the Golden Arches, they have launched the new McDonaldland Meal nationwide, including right here in the Mid-Michigan area. It's a Quarter Pounder or 10-piece McNuggets, fries, a Mt. McDonaldland Shake (berry flavored), AND a collectible tin featuring Ronald and his crew—including the Hamburglar and Grimace.
If this doesn't bring back McDonaldland collectible glass cup memories, I'm not sure you were paying attention to your childhood. Regardless, welcome back, Ronald. It's good to see you. Now, can you bring back the McDonaldland cookies? Please and thank you?
