Michigan Native and Former WWE Superstar Making AEW Debut

The Masonic Temple in Detroit is playing host to All Elite Wrestling (AEW), and a hometown grappler is making his debut in the promotion on May 7, 2025, at a taping for matches that will appear on both AEW Dynamite and Ring of Honor. The wrestler in question: The "Man-Beast" Rhyno.

Why is he called Rhyno? Even in the world of scripted and choreographed violence, his brute strength is both impressive and scary to watch. But who was Rhyno before entering the world of wrestling?

Rhyno's Early Beginnings in Detroit

According to the professional wrestling reporters at The SmackDown Hotel, he was born Terrance Guildo Gerin on October 7, 1975, in Detroit, Michigan. He attended Annapolis High School in Dearborn Heights, where he was on the wrestling team. He would eventually train with Scott D'Amore's wrestling school, across the Ambassador Bridge in Windsor, Canada.

In a 2013 interview with MLive, Rhyno recalls his trips into Canada with his 1985 Dodge Horizon, praying that when it broke down, it would do so in Michigan. Otherwise, he'd have to explain to Canadian officials why his brother was using a tow strap to drag the old car back into Detroit, since he couldn't afford a towing service.

Rhyno is a former WCW United States Champion (WWE era), WWE SmackDown Tag Team Champion with Heath Slater, 3-time WWF Hardcore Champion, ECW Heavyweight and TV Champion, NWA World Heavyweight and Impact World Tag Team Champion.
