According to the Lansing State Journal, Universal pre-K could come to Lansing School District under a plan announced by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer during her second State of the State address.

During her most recent speech, Governor Whitmer announced her plans to expand a state preschool program to all 4 year olds in school districts that either produce low test scores or have high rates pf poverty.

I think this is a good plan because it's part of her effort to protect and prepare the state's workforce.

According to Whitmer, this all starts with our children. Michigan ranks in the bottom 10 states for overall literacy. This year, the plan is to double down on the commitment to invest in early literacy.

Whitmer's plan would provide additional funding for the Great Start Readiness Program in school districts identified as needing help, though the amount hasn't been determined.

Funding and more information will be shared once the state budget is presented in February.
