Potato burgers have been around for many years in different establishments, but the place that gets the most publicity is the Railside Bar & Grill in Elmira.

Once called the Elmira Inn, the Railside sits at 8805 M-32. Once the food starts cookin’ and the potato burgers begin fryin’, the customers start flockin’. The aroma leaves the building and drifts through town, tempting everyone in its path.

The crown jewel of the Railside is the Potato Burger. It’s mashed potatoes formed into patties, breaded, deep fried, slapped onto a flavored bun, with any fixin’s you’d like, but mostly onion, lettuce, tomato, and cheese.

Although it’s the potato burger that has been bringin’ ‘em back for over thirty years, the Railside is also known for their menu of authentic Polish dishes. Being in northern Michigan, they also feature baskets of fried smelt.....oh yeah, and sandwiches and pizza.

Elmira is 15 minutes northwest of Gaylord, and the Railside is one of the best-kept secrets in that part of the state.
