Police Memorial Monument in the Works Since 2004
The Michigan Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Monument has been in the works since 2004, when legislators created a commission to oversee fundraising and construction.
Organizers are having a difficult time raising money for the $3 million project. As of Tuesday, officials announced a $100,000 donation from Delta Dental of Michigan and said they hope to break ground in 2018.
The state established a matching fund grant program in 2014, which runs until Oct. 1, 2018. Organizers said another $750,000 must be raised by that date to commence construction. Here's more from the Lansing State Journal.
