Ozzy Osbourne Proposed To Sharon Here in Michigan…..Uh, Right?

The late Ozzy Ozbourne does indeed have some history in Michigan. It was here where he proposed to his girlfriend Sharon In Kalamazoo, in fact.

During his Kalamazoo concert in 1982, he reportedly brought Sharon out onstage midway through the show and proposed. According to a witness who was at that show, Sharon accepted and hurried off the stage.

The concert crowd was not prepared for this. They had previously heard an earlier radio interview with Ozzy when he said he was going to blow up a goat during the show..

Good ol’ Ozzy. He was more of a prankster than we realized at the time (he even called me up after his show at the Lansing Civic Center in February 1982. I was on the air at the time and this voice on the other end asked “play me an Ozzy Osbourne song, will ya?” It was Ozzy himself).

Once the Kalamazoo show was over, the talk (a/k/a rumors) began.

People in the K-zoo area couldn’t stop talking about the proposal, and other Kalamazoo sites started being named as the place where Ozzy proposed. One main rumor was he proposed in a party store. Another says it occurred in front of the Gibson Guitar factory (that one makes perfect sense).

It could be these rumors started to draw attention to the businesses, but most agree the proposal was at the concert. Even Sharon agreed it was at the Kalamazoo Concert, even though she got the year wrong...she claimed it was 1981. Or did she?

Confusing fans even further, Sharon mentioned on a talk show that Ozzy proposed at someone’s private home, and he even asked her father for marriage permission.

After all these decades, memories do get blurry. But whether it was a legitimate marriage proposal or not, the fact remains that somewhere in Kalamazoo, Ozzy Osbourne proposed to his future wife Sharon in 1982.

The couple got married later that year.
