Seriously? They're thinking about charging residents with overnight parking on Lansing streets. You may need to buy a permit very soon.

According to the Lansing State Journal, City Council is considering changes to Lansing's parking ordinance.

Right now, the ordinance prohibits parking on city streets between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m., but Lansing rarely enforces that ban.

Amendments awaiting City Council's approval would create an exception to the overnight ban for Lansing residents who obtain permits.

Council anticipates voting on the changes Dec. 16. The new rules could take effect Jan. 1 or Feb. 1.

If the amendments are approved, council members expect Lansing will more consistently enforce its overnight rules by ticketing people who lack the permits.

Under the proposal, only residents could obtain annual parking permits, but non residents could apply for temporary permits that would allow overnight street parking for up to three days.
