East Lansing’s old Albert PIck Motel was located at 1427 W Saginaw Street.

Construction on the Albert began in July 1959, finally ready and opened to the public on December 22 of that year. Upon its debut, the Albert gave East Lansing a modern hostel to families who were visiting their kids in college.

The Albert featured 110 rooms, air-conditioning, heated pool, 24-hour telephone service (a luxury back then), and meeting rooms.

This motel was part of the Albert Pick Hotel chain, the third-largest in the country at that time. Even so, by January 1982, that was enough – it was sold and became the Americana Inn. In 1983, it became occupied by First of Michigan. The left and right wings were demolished in 2005 and only the center section remains.

The structure is now the Pointe Professional Center which includes a Fifth Third Bank.

For those who recall the Albert PIck, but especially for those who stayed there a few times, there are some stories to be told...but I will guess that many of those personal tales are to remain quiet.
