Officials Think Lansing Could be Next to Reopen

Over two months now dealing with the coronavirus pandemic. A few things are about to change as we continue social distancing.

Earlier in the week, Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced that much of the economy can reopen in the Upper Peninsula and 17 counties in northern lower Michigan, including the Traverse City area

That's as long as people follow guidelines intended to slow the spread of COVID-19.

According to the Lansing State Journal, while the Lansing area has had more cases and deaths than those two areas, it's possible the region could be next in line to reopen with restrictions.

Based on the numbers so far, the Lansing area has seen a decrease in both documented cases and the percentage of tests coming back positive.

The Lansing region includes Clinton, Eaton, Gratiot, Ingham and Shiawassee counties.

The number of new cases and deaths has been declining for weeks in Michigan.

Governor Whitmer's executive order on Monday was the first major relaxation since she closed all non- essential businesses and offices two months ago to slow the spread of the coronavirus.

I can tell you this, people are doing a great job by staying home, yet many are ready to head over to a family member's house just to enjoy quality time they have missed out on for so long.

I guess we just continue to stay calm and focus on what our governor has to say.

Beginning Friday, bars, restaurants and other businesses in the U.P. and northern Lower Peninsula will be allowed to open as long as they follow guidelines.
