According to the Lansing State Journal, the Ingham County Sheriff's Office is moving away from its traditional brown uniform in favor of a black and gray variant.

The switch was driven by cost considerations, basically an impending group of retirements.

Captain Greg Harris said it's always been some sort of a brown and tan combination.  We did not want to abandon that brown uniform, but, with the color choices out there, brown wasn't an option.

The new black uniforms are lighter, more comfortable and much cheaper than the current uniforms.  They'll have the same sleeve patch, only in black and grey.

Cost was a big consideration as the department prepares for a massive turnover over the next few years.  Please click on the above link for more information.
