One of the biggest reasons why I'm writing this article is because I know how hard MSU Women's Basketball coach Suzy Merchant works to have a successful program.

Not only that, but I've had the pleasure of working with Suzy Merchant at several 5K races, sponsored by Ele's Place at Jackson National Life headquarters in Okemos.

Suzy Merchant is one of the nicest people you would ever want to meet. Not only is she an outstanding basketball coach for MSU, she really cares about her players on and off the court at Michigan State University.

Most recently, coach Merchant agreed to a five year contract extension through 2027, and she couldn't be more happier about it.

According to the Lansing State Journal:

"I just really appreciate the support," Merchant said following the Spartans' exhibition win over Saginaw Valley on Sunday. "In this business as you know, recruits always want to know how long you're going to be here and where do you stand and what not. I just really do appreciate our administration and (athletic director) Alan Haller for the opportunity to stand on the sidelines.

Did you know that coach Merchant has had over 300 wins since being here at MSU? That's so impressive. Now we get to keep her at MSU for another 5 amazing years.

The Lansing State Journal also adds:

Merchant, who is entering her 16th season leading the Spartans, surpassed 500 career coaching wins and 300 for her career at MSU last season. She is one of two coaches in Spartan women's basketball history with more than 300 victories. Merchant enters this season with a 311-172 record at MSU. She only trails Karen Langeland, who had 376 victories while in charge of the Spartans.

MSU fans will continue to look forward to many more Spartan wins over the next 5 years with Suzy Merchant as head coach of the Women's Spartan basketball team.

I always see Suzy Merchant out and about these days. The last time I ran into her was at the Meridian Mall. She was doing a little shopping with her family. GO GREEN!
