ALWAYS GET PERMISSION TO ENTER LOCKED CEMETERIES TO PROTECT YOURSELF; IT’S NOT THAT HARD. MANY SELF-CALLED “GHOSTHUNTERS” HAVE BEEN APPREHENDED THAT DID NOT GET PERMISSION.

It’s one of Michigan’s most famous haunted cemeteries, and for good reason. There have been so many instances that are unique to this graveyard, along with the usual bumps-in-the-night. It’s where a lot of ghost-hunters & paranormal investigators flock to. It's Nunica Cemetery, established in 1883. So let’s get right into it.

According to one visitor, “I heard something that sounded like a clear ringing of a bell off to the right side. It kept ringing and I went closer to the noise. Once I reached that part, the ringing stopped and didn’t sound again.”

Another person mentioned the visions of:
1) a tall man in a suit and hat smoking a cigar, sometimes peeking from behind a tree, 2) a woman in a white dress who can just appear or float across the windshield as you’re driving
3) a young boy with plaid shorts, white shirt and suspenders lying across the top of headstones
4) creepy apparitions that hide in the woods.

Then there’s the person who smelled cigar smoke when there was no one nearby.

Oh, but there is much more...

1) The spirit of a little girl has been known to grab & hold onto people's hands as if looking for comforting.
2) Voices from nowhere (yawn...too ordinary)
|3) The apparition of a 'lady in white’ (many graveyards claim to have a lady in white or one in blue)
4) The grave of Civil War hero Joel Bond, whose spirit flirts with ladies.
5) A portion with many graves of children who died from a 1920s flu outbreak
6) The front of the cemetery is rumored to once have been an Indian burial ground

According to paranormal investigator Amberrose Hammond, “There were times when we would pull up at night, stop the car, roll down the windows and just stare into the blackness. Within two minutes we’d be turning the car back on, rolling up the windows tight and heading back out onto the road and somewhere pleasant."

The cemetery is located on M-104 just off the I-96 exit, in Nunica, Michigan.

If you visit, don’t be an idiot. Don’t whoop and holler. Don’t litter. Don’t vandalize. Act like an adult, for Pete’s sake. This legendary place has had enough disrespect by vandals and those who act like fools. There has been so much trouble, that now local volunteers keep an eye on it. Always obey signs and treat it with respect. Don’t ruin it for others, like some already have.
