Doctor Says Kellogg’s Makes the Most Dangerous Cereal in the U.S.
The above-named doctor is Dr. Darin Detwiler, a former food safety expert.
According to a 2024 article in the New York Post, he claims that the most dangerous cereal in the United States is Kellogg's Froot Loops. His report states that the loops are “heavily processed and contain high levels of added sugars, artificial dyes and preservatives, which are linked to health concerns.”
What kind of health concerns?
Froot Loops contained Red 40, sometimes called Allura red, a dye that is tough on the digestive tract. Researchers in Ontario, Canada say the dye could trigger irritable bowel syndrome and Crohn’s disease. Cancer is also a concern. Many ingredients in American cereals like Froot Loops are banned in other countries due to the danger they cause.
The Canadian version of Froot Loops has more natural dyes, like carrot, watermelon and blueberry juices.
Eventually, a petition was written, garnering over 400,000 signatures which was sent to the offices in Battle Creek. The petition called for the removal of the artificial dyes and preservatives, saying they cause “health defects and behavioral issues in some children.”

Responding, Kellogg's stated “Today, more than 85 percent of our cereal sales contain no colors from artificial sources. In fact, we continuously innovate new cereals that do not contain colors from artificial sources across our biggest brands, offering a broad choice of nourishing foods for our consumers.”
Good news for Froot Loops and other cereal lovers.
