Most City of Lansing Department Heads are Getting Raises
According to the Lansing State Journal, most city of Lansing department heads are getting raises this year.
The mayor said he decided on flat increases of $2,000 for each returning department head because he didn't personally witness their individual performances last year and felt it was most appropriate to reward them equally.
The salaries do not include longevity bonuses, which kick in after five years of service. For department heads, those bonuses start at $400 annually for between five and ten years of service and are capped at $2,000 annually after 25 years.
Mayor Andy Schor said he set pay for department heads based on experience with the city. For that reason, four of his new appointments will be making less than their counterparts last year under Mayor Virg Bernero.
