Forget the big cities...we know cities are big enough to have their own spots of beauty...but not enough is said about the small towns. Michigan's villages and small communities definitely have their share of beauty, whether it's in the eye or mind of the beholder.

I have my own personal choices for Michigan's Most Beautiful Small Town, but the one featured in this article came from the mind of someone working for Traveland Leisure. They preface their findings by stating “From coastal destinations with stunning natural scenery to hidden gems with historic architecture, these are some of the most beautiful small towns in America.”

And the one they chose for Michigan came in at #10 in their list of the Top 20...and that town is Leland/Fishtown in Leelanau County. In their article they describe it as “a tourism dream team composed of a working commercial fishing village and a community of people who love their summer cottages. Leland is a special place virtually untouched by time. For instance, it has no stoplights. And the oft-photographed Leland canal epitomizes Michigan’s lakeside charm.”

What is your choice for most beautiful Michigan small town? Do you agree with their synopsis? Take a look at the photos below and see if they are correct in their research. The gallery features many vintage photos of Fishtown and Leland, some going back to the turn of the 20th Century.
