Governor Gretchen Whitmer is calling for more affordable access to higher education in Michigan, according to WILX-News 10, Your Breaking News and Weather Authority.

It's a plan to give high school students a chance to further their education, without sending them into massive debt.

Governor Whitmer also encouraged lawmakers to include trade schools in this program.

The MI Opportunity Initiative would provide tuition assistance to eligible students for up to three years of community college, or until the student earns 60 semester credits.
