I've known about Mobil gas stations ever since I can remember...but I don't ever remember actually going to one to fill up my tank. When I was a kid, my dad always - well, at least MOST of the time – stopped at a Standard station.

When I was old enough to drive, I usually pulled in to the gas station with the least expensive gas...I didn't care about the brand. I used Sinclair, Standard, Shell, and all the cheapies...but for some reason, Mobil stations eluded me. Not by choice, it's just that the others seemed to loom up first.

Mobil started out in 1867 as the Astral Oil Works, followed by the Standard Oil Company of New York from 1911–1931. Then it became  Socony-Vacuum for the years 1931–1955. Then as Socony Mobil (Get it? Socony: Standard Oil COmpany of New York) from 1955-1966, and finally the Mobil Oil Corporation from 1966–1999.

Even though the company went poop-up in 1999, Mobil merged with Exxon and products carrying the Mobil name are still available.
