Manmade Structure in Clio, Michigan is the Tallest in the State
Nope. You didn't read that headline wrong. Chances are you've passed by the tallest manmade structure in Michigan without giving a second or even a first glance. In fact, I have passed by this pile of metal on several occasions when traveling to or through Clio, Michigan. While it most certainly crossed my eyeline, I never realized how something so unassuming could possibly be the tallest manmade structure in Michigan.

Whether you've appreciated it or not, its impressive height can't be ignored.
Clio, Michigan Tower, Nearly Twice the Height of Detroit's Tallest Building
Detroit's Renaissance Center is the tallest building, standing at an impressive 727 feet. Close behind is one of the newest additions to Motown's skyline, the Gordie Howe Bridge, which will reach 722 feet upon completion.
While the Renaissance Center helps define the silhouette of Michigan's Motor City, it's just a little more than half the height of the tallest manmade structure in the state.
Clio is Home of Michigan's Tallest Manmade Structure
Behold: Michigan's tallest manmade structure, the WEYI television tower. Also known as the Barrington Broadcast Flint Tower, the cable-stayed tower was built in 1972.

While no official documentation exists, MLive and NBC 25 have written that this broadcast tower reaches farther into the Michigan skyline than any other.
So, chances are you have driven by this 1,349-foot-tall monolith and not even realized that it is nearly twice the height of Michigan's tallest building or that it is the tallest known manmade structure in the state. To give it perspective, if you were to sink the tower into the darkest depths of Lake Superior, the deepest of the Great Lakes, 17 feet of steel would still extend above the surface of the water.
Though there are plenty of warning signs surrounding any broadcast tower that cannot be missed and should not be ignored, it is worth noting that these are dangerous structures and should not be approached.
