Michigan’s COVID Numbers Are the Nations Highest
It was quite a weekend in Michigan with the number of coronavirus cases soaring. Saturday saw our numbers hit 8,413. that is a number we haven't hit since early in December.
Michigan is now reporting highest numbers in the United States, ABC has this story.
Most of the new cases of COVID-19 are in the 60 and under age group, since most of those 60 and older already have been given their vaccine. Hospitalizations for residents ages 40 to 49 increased by 800%. Over the weekend news outlets reported that Michigan was the nations newest hot spot.
In an interview last week with Detroit ABC affiliate WXYZ, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nations top infectious disease expert, said that the recent surge in COVID-19 cases in Michigan was very likely due to our state opening up too soon.
In February Michigan loosened some restrictions and the state reopened bars and restaurant up to 25% and that number increased to 50% on March 5th. The states mask mandate remains in effect.
The Michigan Health and Hospital Association released some new numbers for COVID-19, Michigan's total cases of the virus are at 692,206 and deaths in our state 16,218. Unfortunately those are already low as our numbers continue to rise, especially in Jackson which is our states current 'hotspot'.
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has eased up restrictions on traveling, saying that anyone who has had both doses of the vaccine can feel to travel. Mask restrictions and social distancing practice's are still in place.
Starting today vaccine's are now available to residents 16 and older.. Hopefully as more residents get the vaccine we will finally see numbers in Michigan decline.
