Michigan Colder Than Alaska AND Antarctica For Most of the Week

We don't have hurricanes, tidal waves, earthquakes, or sharks, but Michigan winter may very well make you want to swim surf on a Great White while riding a tsunami. According to the National Weather Service and The Weather Channel, the Mitten State will see colder temperatures than Alaska and Antarctica.

These icy temperatures are courtesy of a shift in the Polar Vortex, about 20 miles above us, in the Earth's stratosphere. So technically, it's not the Polar Vortex delivering this week's bone-chilling mercury drop; it's the jetstream swirls several miles below it and gets pushed toward Michigan and the Midwest, providing a soul-crushing Arctic Blast. But how cold will it get?

It's not often the thought of comparing Michigan's forecast to that of the North or South Pole, but with temperatures threatening to dip below and stay below zero next week, I thought I'd take a look.

The results? Well, if you want to go somewhere to warm up this week, punch Nome or Deception Island into your GPS because while we're dealing with the Arctic Blast, they'll enjoy some unseasonably warm temperatures.
