
Searching for Old Michigan Towns with State Names
There were a good number of towns, villages, and communities in Michigan that shared the names of other states
The main reason being: many of the original settlers who arrived in these towns named their new community after the hometown they had left.
This is a compendium with links to each individual article that tell you more about each one.

JERSEY, Isabella County (and others)
OHIO, Ottawa County (and another)
WASHINGTON, Macomb County (and others)
WYOMING, Kent County (and others)
Those have all been accounted for but there are a couple of others that seem to be lost to history: ‘New York’ Mine in Marquette County and ‘Virginia’ Corners in Kalamazoo County.
