There were a good number of towns, villages, and communities in Michigan that shared the names of other states

The main reason being: many of the original settlers who arrived in these towns named their new community after the hometown they had left.

Those have all been accounted for but there are a couple of others that seem to be lost to history: ‘New York’ Mine in Marquette County and ‘Virginia’ Corners in Kalamazoo County.
