Searching for Old Michigan Towns with State Names

There were a good number of towns, villages, and communities in Michigan that shared the names of other states

The main reason being: many of the original settlers who arrived in these towns named their new community after the hometown they had left.

ALASKA, Kent County

CALIFORNIA, Branch County

DELAWARE, Keweenaw County

FLORIDA, Hillsdale County

JERSEY, Isabella County (and others)

MINNESOTA, Ontonagon County

NEBRASKA, Washtenaw County

OHIO, Ottawa County (and another)

OREGON, Lapeer County

Those have all been accounted for but there are a couple of others that seem to be lost to history: ‘New York’ Mine in Marquette County and ‘Virginia’ Corners in Kalamazoo County.
