Michigan State Head Softball Coach Retiring after 29 Seasons

Could you even possibly imagine coaching a college softball team for almost three decades? First of all, that's very impressive, and second, it's a lifetime of memories.

And all the memories belong to MSU softball coach Jacquie Joseph, who has done an outstanding job for the last 29 years for Michigan State.

Even though Jacquie is retiring from coaching, she will continue working in an administrative role for Michigan State's athletic department.

There are so many accolades for coach Joseph over the years as head coach of the women's fast pitch softball team.

Joseph went 754-809-1 in her 29 seasons at Michigan State and is a member of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Hall of Fame. She made four NCAA regional appearances and won the 2004 Big Ten tournament title. But her teams hadn’t posted a winning record in Big Ten play since that season, and the Spartans’ season ended at 24-28 on Wednesday with a loss to Maryland in the opening round of this year’s conference tournament, played on Michigan State’s campus.

Congratulations for a job well done on so many softball fields over a span of 29 amazing years from coach Jacquie Joseph.

This whole story takes me back to my younger years when I played men's fast pitch softball.

I played on several church teams when I was 16-18 years old. I was one of the pitchers on several teams and I remember practicing my pitching skills all the time.

It was so much fun. Eventually I started playing slow pitch softball for many years because it seemed like so many of my friends were enjoying all of the challenges that went with it.

To this day, softball will always be my favorite sport of choice. I played the game for many, many years and at one point, played on three different summer teams.
