Ghost Town? Grounds of the Michigan Renaissance Festival – During Winter
The Michigan Renaissance Festival typically begins mid-August and lasts until the last week of September. It doesn’t matter what the weather is like: rain, shine, hot, humid, stormy, cold, or snow. It goes on no matter what, normally from 9am to 7pm.
The grounds are located at 12600 Dixie Highway in Holly...probably the only place in Michigan where you can see (legal) jousting matches. The property is all natural (except for the structures) with everything the knights of old had to contend with: dirt, grass, mud, pebbles, rocks, and probably a bug or two. Best time to come is when the weather is a little cooler, like mid to-late September.

It’s all located on grounds within a reconstructed 16th century village including over 80 artisan shops with all types of homemade crafts and food. There are plenty of activities to be a part of, like games, rides, and even live performances.
Each weekend brings something new! No clue what to wear? Then visit one day, get an idea from the many costumed revelers, then come back with your own unique regalia. Just don’t expect to play your guitar, mandolin, autoharp, flute, harp, bagpipes, lute, or any instrument...they are all forbidden. No pets either, except dogs.
Now that we’ve done a recap, it’s time to see what the grounds look like a few months after the festival is over.....in wintertime. Structures still stand among the ghosts of what took place just a couple of months earlier. Take a look at the images in the photo gallery below...
