Michigan One-Room Schoolhouses of Shiawassee County
Shiawassee County boasted over 135 one-room schoolhouses during its history with the first ones made of logs, recorded as far back as 1847.
Of all those, less than half remain in some sort of condition. Some have been converted into homes, township halls, churches, museums, and even added onto other buildings. Others remain empty, some hidden from view, some not.
Below are 12 pictures of nine old schoolhouses that still stand in Shiawassee County, the majority of them now being residences.
If you roadtrip to seek out any old Michigan one-room schoolhouses, always respect private property and homes.
