Shiawassee County boasted over 135 one-room schoolhouses during its history with the first ones made of logs, recorded as far back as 1847.

Of all those, less than half remain in some sort of condition. Some have been converted into homes, township halls, churches, museums, and even added onto other buildings. Others remain empty, some hidden from view, some not.
